We had a blast this weekend at City of Rocks, National Reserve, in Idaho. It had been since high school that I had been there. It's a big rock climbing area, so we did a lot of that. The weather was nice, the drive wasn't long, the company and scenery were spectacular, really, it was awesome. Malcolm was in heaven. Nothing but being outside and dirt everywhere. He was so happy the whole time. He thought that being outside all day with his aunts, uncles, and grandparents was about as good as it gets. So fun.
Day 1: We left early on Friday afternoon and caravan-ed with the Titensors and Jordan and Kell. We stopped at Dairy Queen, and the only other stop was when Andrew got pulled over for speeding in the middle of nowhere. We were all speeding, but he's the one that got pulled over. :-(
| This was killing me, the shades, one shoe, reading his books. |
| Pulled over waiting for Andrew to get his ticket. Told you it was the middle of nowhere. |
| The view that met us next to camp. |
Day 2: We spent the morning at Elephant Rock, doing a few climbs. When rock climbing, if you're not climbing or belaying, there's a lot of just hanging around. So we did a whole lot of that. Malcolm played in the dirt, play with his toys, and took laps back and forth to the car with Daddy.
After a break for lunch, and an attempt to get Malcolm to nap (never happened), we took a hike down into the inner city for another climb. The hike was so pretty, and Malcolm caught his nap, finally. Laura lead the climb, but forgot some supplies, so she had quite the time getting set up once she got up there.
We went back for some delicious dutch oven dinner, and some campfire time.

| That's Laura on the right, and dad in the middle, if you can tell. |
| That's me! |
| Elephant Rock, with Jordan climbing, he's in the shadow of the rock top left. |
| Laura, showing off her "bottle dance" skills |
| He stayed asleep even after we stopped hiking. |
| See, lots of hanging out. |
| Laura climbing, Andrew on belay. |
| It's not bad to just be hanging out when the scenery is so great. |
| If you know where to look, there's Dad, climbing that cliff ahead. |
| See him now? |
| How about now? |
| Old lady rock we saw. |
| aaaaah....... |
Day 3: We packed up camp, then we hiked to Lost Arrow. We had planned to climb it, but had to wait so long for our turn, we ended up bailing with tired babies. We had plans to rest our tired bodies in a local hot spring, but they were closed. So after a stop for dinner, we headed home.
| Denali was tottering around and turfed it backwards... right into the chicken salad tupperware. It was hilarious! She seemed really comfortable and sat there for a long time. |
| Dirty feet. |
| More dirt! Yay! |
| And another nap in a backpack. |
